Thought that it would be a good idea to add some interesting links (web stuff), mainly as I don’t update this stuff very often, so if you happen to end up here you can at least find something interesting to read.

This music thing

June 6th, 2008 by jp

Everyday I go to work, and like a lot of people I question if what I am doing is a complete waste of time. I always come to the same conclusion. Apart from the money, it is a complete waste of time. I think that’s why I’ve attempted to do this label thing.

That in itself is problematic and there are three clear reasons why. Time, money and idiots.

Because I have a full time job, I can’t commit loads of time to establishing the label. The money issue is an interesting  one though. My income is sufficient that it allows me to indulge in starting a label, however I’m not going to throw money at something that is very unlikely to make a profit. Although breaking even would be a nice start.

Last year when I did the Wise long player, I spent quite a bit of money on the artwork, promotion, pressing the damn thing etc. It had a whole load of good reviews (which I will post up), but no distributor would touch it. The net result is that although it is still slowly selling, the financial return has not been viable.

Now the idiots. The music industry has one cool aspect - music, everything else SUCKS. There are a whole load of good people involved in it and I’ve been fortunate to come into contact with a few of them. Unfortunately they are overshadowed by the tumultuous hordes of self absorbed fools. Very few people who work or contribute toward the process of getting music into the public domain are doing it because they love music. Most are doing it because of misguided perceptions on what is cool.

These three things force me to question why I am doing this label thing. But the truth is I know why.

I love music.

That said it’s taking me bloody ages to sort the Koaste stuff out. Apologies for the delay.

Crikey. You might already know, BUT YOU MIGHT NOT.

After  very little time thinking I decided that seven inch singles are cool. So the next releases on Heroic will be incredibly limited editions in that format (seven inch slabs of wax).

One will be from the mighty Witchdoctor Wise featuring a slamming BANGER that you may have already heard (if you’re clever and own his critically acclaimed debut long player). On the flip will be a brand new exclusive unheard Wise joint.

The other new release will be the debut solo release of south coast legend Koaste. We’ve agreed the tracks, just adding the finishing touches. Highly anticipated, eagerly awaited YOU WILL WANT THIS…………………
